MIA Sustainability Framework and Strategy Plan
Adopting a two-pronged approach to the sustainability of the profession and the Institute, the MIA Sustainability Agenda aims to future-proof the profession by enhancing competency, protecting the public interest, and supporting sustainable nation building.
Following the launch of the MIA Sustainability Blueprint for the Accountancy Profession (the Blueprint) and operationalisation of the MIA Sustainability Roadmap (Roadmap), MIA undertook the development of the MIA Sustainability Framework and Strategy Plan (the Framework).
Approved by the Council on 29 May 2025, the Framework reinforces our commitment to sustainability, and supports the Institute’s organisational sustainability as well as the implementation of the Blueprint, aligning with Malaysia’s national sustainability and climate goals.
The Framework is structured around three strategic themes, namely strengthening trust and good governance, empowering the profession, and supporting sustainable development, aligned with seven United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Guided by the Framework, MIA will implement five flagship initiatives over a three-year Roadmap commencing July 2025 which comprises sixteen initiatives, supported by the three key enablers of people, technology, and collaboration. The Framework demonstrates MIA’s leadership and commitment in embedding sustainability while supporting the nation’s sustainable development.
Advocacy in Sustainability Reporting
As the voice of the Malaysian profession, MIA seeks to continually contribute our perspectives which are reflected in the shaping of global standards. In June 2025, MIA submitted a comment letter on the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) Exposure Draft: Amendments to Greenhouse Gas Emissions Disclosures. The amendments provide for additional relief and clarify existing reliefs under specific greenhouse gas emissions disclosure requirements. The comment letter incorporated feedback received from the Sustainability Working Group (SWG) which is under the purview of the MIA Sustainability Committee. The comment letter can be accessed here.
