Small and Medium Practices (SMPs) face a challenging business landscape as rising audit exemption thresholds, accelerated digitalisation, stronger tax enforcement, talent shortages and ongoing fee pressure reshape traditional practice models.

At the same time, clients increasingly expect faster service, practical advice and strategic business support as compliance work becomes more automated. To remain competitive and resilient, SMPs must transform how they operate, adopt technology responsibly, strengthen talent strategies and develop advisory capabilities that create new sources of value for clients.

In response to these developments, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) is pleased to present SMP Forum 2026, themed Future-Ready SMPs: Building Sustainable, Advisory-Driven Practices in an Evolving Profession

Through panel discussions and focused deep-dive sessions featuring regulators, practitioners, and practice leaders, the Forum will equip participants with strategies and best practices to diversify service offerings, strengthen operational efficiency, adopt digital tools and sustainability measures, address talent shortages and build advisory-led practices that meet the changing needs of clients. As regulatory developments affect compliance and performance, the Forum will also examine the implications of proposed amendments to the Companies Act relating to sustainability reporting, as well as the AMLA Amendments and key updates to the AMLA & DCR 2026 Declaration, and how these developments will affect SMPs and their clients.

SMP Forum 2026 will be held on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, from 9.00am to 5.00pm at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre @ Nexus, Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur.

The Forum has been curated to help SMPs address some of their most pressing needs:

SMP Forum 2026 offers an opportunity to network with peers, gain practical insights and pick up core tools to build future-ready SMPs that remain sustainable, advisory-driven and trusted in an evolving profession.

Group rates are available for registrations of two (2) participants and above from the same organisation. In addition, RM150 incentive is offered exclusively to MIA Members and Member Firms as part of MIA’s efforts to support members in fulfilling their CPE requirements.
